Alliance Trust PLC is a self-managed investment company with investment trust status.

Founded in Dundee in 1888, Alliance Trust is a FTSE-100 company and the UK's largest generalist investment trust with assets of £2.25bn (as at 31 December  2008).

Our objective is to be a core investment for investors seeking increased value over the long term. Our focus is to generate superior returns for shareholders over the long term through a combination of capital growth and income. We have no fixed asset allocation benchmark and we invest in a wide range of asset classes throughout the world to achieve our objective.

Investment is at the heart of everything we do. Our experienced investment team, based in Scotland, pursues our objective by investing in quoted equities, which makes up more than 75% of net assets (as at 31 December 2008), and in other asset classes.

Alliance Trust PLC also invests in its subsidiaries, which account for around 2% of net assets. Its asset management business, Alliance Trust Asset Management, offers a range of funds to retail and institutional clients as well as investment management for third parties. Its financial services subsidiary, Alliance Trust Savings, provides investment administration and share dealing services offering its clients a simple, inexpensive way to hold investments, including within tax-advantaged wrapper accounts such as ISAs and SIPPs.
