HSBC Bank plc

The HSBC Group is named after its founding member, The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited which was established in 1865 to finance the growing trade between Europe, India and China.  Thomas Sutherland was founder of the bank, a Scot who understood that there was considerable demand for local banking facilities in Hong Kong and on the coast of China and he assisted in establishing the bank which opened in Hong Kong in March in1865 and in Shanghai one month later. 

Headquartered in London, today, HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial organisations in the world with an international network comprising of around 9,500 offices in 85 countries and territories in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa.
