Ruffer is an independent and privately owned investment management firm looking after investments for private clients, trusts, charities and pension funds on a discretionary basis. The business was founded in 1994 by Jonathan Ruffer, Viscount Tamworth and Jane Tufnell. We now employ over 100 people with offices in London, Edinburgh and Hong Kong.

 

Our goal is to produce consistent positive returns in all market conditions. We aim never to lose money in any twelve-month period and to generate returns ahead of the ‘risk-free' alternative of depositing money in a bank. Over the past fifteen years, we have broadly achieved these aims, shielding our clients from the great market crashes and generating returns ahead of cash. We conduct our own independent research, actively manage investments and operate freely without the straitjacket of relative returns or market benchmarks. We endeavour to provide a service that combines good investment returns with first class administration and clear reporting.

Ruffer operates as a partnership and we feel that this structure aligns our interests with those of our clients. Through the partnership structure senior staff share in the long-term profitability of the firm and they are interested in solid and sustainable investment returns rather than speculative trading. Above all we cherish long term relationships with our clients.
