Scottish Life is a division of Royal London and is the specialist pensions business within the Group, providing individual and group pensions to the market via intermediaries.

Scottish Life and Royal London's other intermediary businesses are based mainly in Edinburgh where 1,140 staff are employed, with 710 working in other parts of the UK and overseas (as at 30 September 2009).

Bright Grey is a modern, forward-thinking protection specialist set up by the Royal London Group in March 2003 to provide insurance plans that suit today's flexible lifestyles. It launched with its Personal Protection Menu - a flexible product offering life, critical illness and income protection. And in February 2008 it introduced its Business Protection Menu, a bespoke proposition for the business market.

Every Bright Grey plan includes its Helping Hand service, which gives plan owners and their families valuable emotional and practical support from a personal nurse adviser, as well as access to helplines to promote a healthy lifestyle. Helping Hand is unique in the industry and gives advisers the opportunity to recommend a product that's best value for their clients.

Bright Grey focuses on improving and developing its products so that it continues to meet the changing needs of its customers. In March 2008 Bright Grey became the first UK protection provider to develop its own expert underwriting system - interactive quote and apply. Its speed and efficiency were recognised at the National Business Awards for Scotland, where it was the winner of both the Business Innovation and Best Use of Technology in Business awards.
