Founded in 1815 as Scotland’s first mutual life office, Scottish Widows has gone from strength to strength over the past 190 years; it is one of the top providers in the UK Life, Pensions and Investment market. Its products range from ordinary long-term insurance (such as life insurance, pensions and annuities) to savings and investment products.

In 2007, Scottish Widows’ operating profit was £1,056 million. And as at June 2008, Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP) manages £90.2 billion of client funds, making it one of the largest investment managers in Europe.

Scottish Widows' living logo, the Scottish Widow, is one of the most recognised in the life, pensions and investment industry.  Headquartered in Edinburgh with offices in other parts of the United Kingdom, they currently employ around 4, 000 people in customer services, product development, investment, information technology, sales and marketing, actuarial services and support.
