SFE is delighted to invite you to a breakfast briefing with Thomson Reuters looking at MiFID II as a challenge for the buy-side with a specific focus on Research Unbundling.

MiFID II is one of the most far reaching pieces of regulation to impact the financial services industry. For firms on the buy-side, a key aspect of the regulation is the separation of research fees from execution. Where previously costs for research were “bundled” with execution costs, going forward buy-side firms will need to separately pay for any research they receive. This raises a number of key questions:

  • How to understand which research is useful and relevant?
  • How to demonstrate to clients and the regulator that you have processes in place for valuing and paying for research?
  • Addressing the need to assess your broker research and consumption on an ongoing basis.

This presentation will go through the research unbundling challenge, share some insights from how the market is responding and discuss options for firms looking at solutions.

The session will be led by Jamie Coombs, Market Development Manager, Investment & Advisory at Thomson Reuters. Jamie leads Market Development in Europe North for Asset & Investment Management, and in this role liaises with industry on the major challenges they are facing. Recently this has involved working with firms on their response to MiFID II, addressing challenges including research unbundling and data consumption and reporting. Previous roles at Thomson Reuters include Head of Permissioning for Europe, and Global Product Manager for Investment Management.
