SFE & Burness Paull LLP Breakfast Briefing on Insolvency risks with customers and service providers of financial sector businesses

Date:     Thursday 1 November 2018

Time:     8.30am – 10.00am

Venue:  Burness Paull LLP, 50 Lothian Road, Edinburgh, EH3 9WJ

Over a quarter of UK companies have suffered a hit to their finances following the insolvency of a customer, supplier or debtor in the first half of 2018, according to new research from R3, the insolvency and restructuring trade body.  While many of the recent high-profile insolvencies are in the retail sector, risks such as competition, increased regulation, technology and Brexit are increasing pressure within the financial sector, meaning that all FS businesses should be aware of how the insolvency of contract counterparties could impact upon them.

This event will cover the following topics:

  1. Spotting warning signs of client/supplier insolvency
  2. Options for dealing with a distressed stakeholder
  3. Reacting to an insolvency
  4. FAQs on the insolvency process

The session will be led by Michael Thomson, Partner and Head of Restructuring & Insolvency at Burness Paull.  The firm has been involved in the highest profile insolvencies and restructurings of 2018 impacting Scotland, including Carillion, Poundworld and New Look, and Michael acts for the majority lenders and administrators of House of Fraser.  Acting for stakeholders including boards of distressed companies, lenders and insolvency practitioners, the team is ideally placed to share its insights with organisations looking to be on the front foot in dealing with insolvencies of key stakeholders.

This is a private event for SFE Members only, however, please pass on to any interested colleagues within your organisation.
