Scottish Financial Services Awards

Scottish Financial Enterprise and Ernst & Young (our associates in our annual awards) have decided to replace The Innovators with a new award - the Scottish Financial Services Awards.

The Scottish Financial Services Awards will build on the success of The Innovators, but will have a format that is broader than product, and is better able to capture the very best in the industry each year. This may be an individual who has shone in his or her field; a top management team who have had an exceptional year; or a pioneering community or educational initiative.

The new awards will still be made at our annual dinner, which this year is at the Thistle Hotel in Glasgow on 28 October. The new format means that, rather than ask members to complete application forms, we will draw up a list of contenders, focusing on - international success; intermediate/small company success and educational or wider community success.

In order to draw up that list, between now and the end of July we will talk widely to our membership through policy sector groups and our forums and consider the achievements of our industry over the last year.

At the SFE Annual Dinner we will see a video showing the finalists and explaining their reason for selection before the overall winner is announced.

We will provide more information on the website, and raise the new Awards in our regular discussions with members in the coming months. If you are not a member of any of our groups but would like to discuss the Awards with me, or with one of the team at SFE, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Alternative Fund Management Directive (AIFMD)

In recent months we have continued our engagement with Europe over the AIFMD. As we enter the final stages of the process we have written http://www.sfe.org.uk/media/resources/owen%20letter.pdf
recently to the EU institutions to urge changes are made to ensure the final text of the directive reflects the real needs of investors and pension holders.

Since last writing we are pleased to have given SFE's backing to the establishment of the UK first Financial Risk Academy http://www.sfe.org.uk/information-and-policy/media/news-releases/article/uks-first-financial-risk-academy-be-established-he/
at Heriot Watt University.

AGM

As you will know we held our AGM earlier this month which was very well attended, with a number of guests from outside the industry joining us for the reception which followed. Thanks to all who participated and to Standard Life who kindly hosted the evening.

Events

This week we have held two breakfast briefings (http://www.sfe.org.uk/). Yesterday, with Sheila Nicoll of the FSA and this morning with Alastair Wilson of the Bank
of England. We had an excellent turn out to both events and the speakers
were very well received.
