CHANGES AT SFE

This month we were delighted to announce two new Board members for SFE - Ken Barclay from RBS and Trevor Hatton from Accenture. More details here.

SFE has also secured some new members in recent months, including BlackRock, BT, Assiso and Oracle. This is good news, and we continue to work hard in these difficult times to do all we can for new and existing members.

EVENTS

We are happy to report great attendance levels from members at our events, with good feedback and regular wider media interest. Our joint conference on Islamic Finance this week is fully booked, but next up is a session on 23 April with Alan Noble, Chair of the Operational Excellence Board on the advantages of using this model in financial services.

And we are delighted to announce Gerry Grimstone - Chairman of Standard Life and India Champion for UKTI - as key speaker for a members-only business briefing on 5 May, when he will discuss the opportunities for financial services companies in India. It is not yet on our website, but look out for more information soon.

CHINA

Some members may not be aware that Owen Kelly our CEO has just returned from a week-long profile-raising visit to China with Jim Murphy, Secretary of State for Scotland. Check out Owen's  blogs on our website for his comments on the programme and people involved.

SFE IN THE MEDIA

As the business environment remains difficult, SFE continues to engage with the media to use every opportunity to promote our industry.  Check our SFE in the media web page to see links to recent press and broadcast coverage. And let us know if you think you have a story SFE could help promote.

ADVANCED STUDY IN RISK MANAGEMENT

Those involved in risk management may want to be aware of a new post-graduate qualification. In response to industry need, and as part of its new centre of excellence in applied quantitative financial research, Heriot Watt University is introducing a new M Sc in Quantitative Risk Management for 2009/10.

TALENTSCOTLAND

One of the many ways government is promoting economic opportunities in Scotland is through the Scottish Enterprise TalentScotland website, which is targeted at people from overseas who are interested in living and working in Scotland. Owen recently contributed an article to their site offering a brief update on financial services.

OTHER EVENTS

As always, we are happy to carry links to non-SFE events that are related to our industry on the website, just email kpensom@sfe.org.uk with details.
