EU REGULATION
SFE members will have a great opportunity to hear about major regulatory change coming from the EU when David Wright, deputy director general, internal markets and services at the European commission speaks at an SFE/Edinburgh University event on 30 April 2010. David is hugely experienced in European matters, and will give an insightful view of current thinking in Brussels.
LANGUAGES
In this most international of industries, the question of competence in other languages is something we at SFE often think about. If you do too, you may be interested in recent comments from Owen on the use of (or absence of) second languages amongst UK business people, and his follow-up comments from a Shakespearean angle. We'd be interested in hearing your views on whether or not this is a problem - email us at info@sfe.org.uk if you'd like to offer an opinion.
SFE WEBSITE
The home page of our website has recently been updated with the addition of a Thomson Reuters news feed, and a ‘latest jobs' section, which highlights one of the 80 or so Scottish vacancies currently listed at our careers centre, created in conjunction with Efinancial Careers. Employers amongst out membership can also benefit from using the site.

MEMBERSHIP SURVEY
Thanks to everyone who took part in our membership survey. It was really useful to get your feedback, and it's an exercise we'll be repeating annually. We were glad to see a healthy majority of positive comments, with members supporting our three priorities and the ways in which we are addressing them. We will take note of members' suggestions for future events (the David Wright briefing on the EU is an early example of this). This year SFE's annual dinner 28 October 2010 in Glasgow, and is now open for booking.
MARTIN CURRIE ROB ROY CHALLENGE
The more adventurous amongst our readers may be keen to hear about the Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge and, indeed, to sign up for this great outdoor event, which takes place in June. It is a healthy mix of getting out in the fresh air and doing something for charity.
