INNOVATORS AWARDS - FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

After attracting a strong level of entries, followed by a tough judging process, the 2009 Innovators Awards have now reached the finalist stage.

The Scotsman carried a feature on the awards this morning. Check here to see full details of the award categories and finalists.  And, while we are almost at capacity, if you wish to book for the SFE annual dinner and Innovators Awards ceremony on 29 October, please email May Houston in the SFE office by close of play on Thursday 15th October.

PARLIAMENTARY INQUIRY

Members will be aware that Owen Kelly appeared before a Holyrood Inquiry last month and, as part of the process, we submitted written evidence to the parliament's Economy, Energy and Tourism committee. That evidence was perceived in two very different ways by commentators, something discussed in Owen's blog recently.

EVENTS

Our business briefings are continuing to attract strong interest from members, so much so that the next two - one with Paul Tucker, deputy governor of the Bank of England, and one with Robert Gardner, senior economics adviser, RBS - are fully subscribed.

There are a few tables available for the MPC Board Bank of England Dinner in Edinburgh on 20 October, where Mervyn King will speak on current issues for the MPC and the current economic climate. Email Jensen at jwood@.sfe.org.uk if you are interested in attending.

We also carry links on our website to other events that may be of interest to members, such as this Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland discussion covering the pertinent subject of  ‘Re-setting the moral compass' or the McGrigors sessions also listed on the page.

CAREERS

A reminder to SFE members of our careers centre, which carries a wide range of financial services posts, and includes search facilities for locations and areas of expertise. Employers may also want to check the advantages of using it to advertise a vacancy.

Check out too the new Executive Skillsbank where managers and professionals who have been made redundant or are facing redundancy can register on a searchable database which logs their skills, experience and areas of expertise.

SFE IN THE MEDIA

SFE once again generated a significant amount of media coverage over the last month. Much of it focused on how Scotland's financial services industry is faring one year on from the global crisis.
