SFE NEWSLETTER 25 SEPTEMBER 2008

September 25, 2008

SFE BOARD

The SFE Board held its regular quarterly meeting yesterday. Given the unprecedented events of the last 10 days, the Board thought a summary of its discussions on the current financial environment would be useful.

GLOBALSCOT EVENT IN CHINA

While those events played out primarily in the West, last week our CEO Owen Kelly was part of a delegation led by John Swinney, MSP, promoting our financial services industry to Asian markets. The focus was on asset managementand SFE members Baillie Gifford, Aberdeen Asset Management and Standard Life Investments were present. Owen posted some initial feedback both during the trip and since returning to Scotland on his blog  and we intend to follow up the opportunities arising from the visit with our asset management members

INNOVATORS 2008

As we work through a difficult year, it feels right to make the most of opportunities to show our undimmed capacity to create better products and services for customers. The annual Innovators Awards are a great place to do that. Please get your company/team entries in by 30 September.

SUCCESS FOR MCGRIGORS

On the subject of awards, SFE is delighted to congratulate one of our member companies, McGrigors, on their success in being named Regeneration Consultancy of the Year at Regeneration & Renewal magazine's inaugural awards in London last week. They achieved this accolade for their involvement in seven major UK regeneration projects.

SFE IN THE MEDIA

SFE has been providing reactive industry comment to events of the last 10 days. Showing that international travel need not hinder media work, Owen's blog from China on HBOS/Lloyds TSB was picked up by Business 7, and he beat the time zone to undertake a BBC Radio Scotland interview while in Hong Kong, and attempted another from Shanghai.

Meanwhile John Campbell provided a commentary piece to the Sunday Express (reproduced on our website) and Ben Thomson, Chairman of the Noble Group worked with SFE to speak on behalf of the industry on Channel Four and BBC Scotland television, and on BBC Radio Scotland.

If you wish to follow up any of the above items, pleas contact us on info@sfe.org.uk
