Comment on Chancellor of the Exchequer’s Mansion House Speech

June 18, 2010

“SFE broadly welcomes the Chancellor’s proposals on regulation. But any changes to the conduct and content of regulation, as opposed to organisational structures, should be based on a long term assessment of the interests and needs of our industry’s manifold customers and clients.  We also look forward to engaging with the Banking Commission when our priority will be to ensure that the international competitiveness of not only the banks but the wider UK financial services industry is maintained. Any proposals to restrict banks’ size, or the range of activities which they can offer, will need to be closely examined against that criterion.”
