July 2, 2009
We launched today the Innovators awards for 2009. As in previous years, we have worked in close partnership with Ernst &Young and this year, perhaps more than any previous, we have tried to give some quite careful thought to the context within which these awards sit. Our Chairman, John Campbell OBE, said last year at the Innovators that innovation could not become a dirty word. At that time, there was a feeling that it was innovation in securitisation, with consequences only poorly understood by regulators as well as practitioners, that had led us into some serious trouble. But John was reminding us of the enduring value of new thinking in maintaining a successful business. So this year's awards will pay particular attention to innovation in skills, customer service, communication and international business. Our industry is unquestionably learning from the experiences of the last couple of years and we and Ernst & Young believe this year's Innovators will be a great chance to recognise that.
As usual, the entry procedures are simple and we have a panel of expert judges, with professional input from Ernst & Young, to select the winners. The awards will be presented at our annual dinner on 29 October.
