We can look forward to parallel inquiries at Holyrood and Westminster, both into Scottish banking. The Holyrood inquiry is more wide-ranging, encompassing all of the financial services industry, not just the banks; and it is looking to the future in many areas, which is very welcome. Parliaments play a central role - arguably the central role - in representing the interests of citizens in analysing past events and making recommendations for the future. Our industry remains at the heart of some of the biggest public policy questions facing Scotland and the UK and we see both Inquiries as an opportunity to identify as many as possible of the moves we and our governments need to make, to rebuild confidence in the financial system.
