Fast Track to Financial Services shortlisted for Tes FE Awards

City of Glasgow College and Edinburgh College have reached the finals of this year’s Tes FE Awards for their collaboration on the Fast Track to Financial Services course.

The Fast Track Course has been shortlisted in the Employer Engagement category, which recognises strategic and innovative approaches to delivering employers' workforce development needs.

Sandy Begbie CBE, SFE Chief Executive, said: “The Fast Track to Financial Services course was established with the support of a number of dedicated stakeholders, including SFE and many of our member organisations, alongside Skills Development Scotland, with the aim of up-skilling and re-skilling graduates to secure roles in the financial services industry. It’s now being delivered to students in Scotland through the hard work of Edinburgh College, City of Glasgow College and industry representatives, helping to create a new pipeline of talent for the sector.”

“It’s heartening to see Fast Track now receiving such a significant acknowledgement. This nomination is a testament to the hard work and collaboration of all involved, and a fantastic endorsement of the course for anyone interested in pursuing a career in financial services.”

Chris Colvin, Associate Dean (Acting), Accounts, Financial Services, Retail & Supply Chain at City of Glasgow College, said: “Our recent collaboration with Edinburgh College is adding value to the course and opening it up to participants throughout Scotland, which means we are better positioned to respond to the post-Covid upskilling and reskilling demand. Between ourselves and Edinburgh, we have up to 120 students taking part across four courses, with an increasing number of students progressing into employment within the sector as the course becomes more established.”

Lynn Loudon, Curriculum Manager, Enterprise and Commerce at Edinburgh College, said: “I am extremely proud of the work both Edinburgh College and Glasgow college staff have done to bring this course to life. The support and engagement we have had from the financial services industry has been amazing. To see students who have been long-term unemployed come through this course and successfully obtain employment within the financial industry has been remarkable, especially during the current pandemic. The students’ determination and willingness to participate in this course shows their commitment to gain future employment within the financial sector.”

This year’s Tes FE awards ceremony will again be held online. The winners will be announced at a virtual ceremony on Friday 28 May 2021.
