New Chairperson for SFE Young Professionals

5 November 2020: Milly Dent has been appointed Chairperson of Scottish Financial Enterprise Young Professionals.

The SFE Young professionals’ network was launched four years ago to connect, inspire and support people launching their career in financial services.

Milly, who is part of the Web Platform Team – Retail Banking, DigiTech at NatWest Group, has been an SFE Young Professionals Committee member since 2018 and was appointed Deputy Chair for Edinburgh in 2019.

She will take over from current Chair Amy McDaid, who is a Senior Manager for Protection at Lloyds Banking Group, this month.

Amy has led SFE Young professionals since April 2019 and has overseen significant growth, including a doubling of members to over 500 and expanding into Glasgow. Amy also led the strategic realignment of the Committee to ensure each role has purpose and to allow greater collaboration with SFE.

Philip Grant, SFE Chair, said: “People might think SFE Young Professionals is about the future, it’s very much about the present. It’s about people across our industry who are innovating, challenging and changing financial services with a real focus on customers and they’re doing it today.

“Amy has done an incredible job leading the SFE Young Professionals Committee and has driven forward its agenda by setting clear objectives and ambition aligned to SFE’s strategy. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Amy for her contribution and offer Milly the full support of the Board of SFE.”

Sandy Begbie, SFE Chief Executive, said: “SFE Young Professionals connect, inspire and support people who are embarking on a career in financial services. The networks they’re building are valuable for the firms that employ them and the ideas they generate as a wider community are creating innovative change across our industry.

“I am passionate about opening doors to young people that would otherwise not enter financial services and I believe our young professionals have an important role to play in inspiring the next generation. I’m looking forward to working with Milly and the Committee, which is highly motivated thanks to Amy’s leadership.”

Milly Dent said: “SFE Young Professionals provides a unique platform for opportunity and a voice for young professionals working in Scottish financial services. Our Committee is proactive and passionate about delivering change that matters to our members, increasing our engagement across the wider SFE membership and accelerating the impact we can have collectively. As Chair, I will be accessible, innovative and committed to our growing network of young professionals and future leaders.”

Amy McDaid said: “I joined SFE YP with an aspiration to participate in activities that would shape the future landscape of Scottish financial services and to connect with likeminded peers. It’s safe to say my experience has exceeded all expectations.

“I have worked with a fantastic team on the Committee; organising events, collaborating with firms and universities on industry challenges, and expanding the representation of our network to new members and to Glasgow city. I have every confidence the Committee, under Milly’s leadership, will continue to create opportunities for network members to learn and contribute to the future of our industry.”
