SFE backs Business Fives 2018 summer season
Business Fives, the five-a-side corporate events company for football-loving professionals, is expanding to five cities across Scotland as it enters its fifth season.
Teams from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness will be given the chance to compete against other businesses for a place in the grand final on Wednesday 26 September in the capital.
Scottish Financial Enterprise is supporting this year’s qualifying event for financial services businesses on 7 August in Edinburgh. This event will be the fifth out of eleven Business Fives regional events taking place throughout July and August across different professional sectors.
Graeme Jones, SFE Chief Executive, said:
“We are pleased to once again be partnering with Business Fives following the success of the competition in recent years. Getting the chance to bring the financial services industry together while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle is fantastic.
“Given the calibre of the companies already signed up for this year’s event, we have no doubt this will be another successful season and a great opportunity for financial services to raise their profile, support charity and have some fun.”
Several businesses from the financial services industry in Edinburgh came together for last year’s summer season to raise money for charities throughout Scotland.
As with other seasons, Business Fives has committed to awarding the winning team with a generous donation of 10 per cent from the event’s revenue to give to their chosen charity. Since 2016, 400 companies have taken part in Business Fives and raised £42,000 for local charities.
Business Fives ambassadors include well-known sports people such as former Rangers star and ex-SFA Chief Executive Gordon Smith, ex-Celtic star turned commentator Andy Walker, Hibs legend Pat Stanton, Hearts stalwart Gary Mackay, BBC Pundit Tam McManus along with TV presenter David Tanner.
John McClarey, Business Fives tournament founder and Managing Director said:
“The events have proven to be a very big hit with the construction, housing and property sectors and allows a wide range of job roles to come together on the football pitch and down tools for the afternoon.
“We’ve been really impressed at the charitable efforts from the financial services sector that has lived up to its reputation of having communities at the heart of their work. Given the mix of companies we’ve had involved it promises to be another good networking opportunity for the industry.”
