SFE Member Update

Our events programme has continued with a series of briefings with the Lord Mayor of London, including the signing of a partnership agreement to promote financial technology in both Edinburgh and London. In April, members heard from Prof David Bell of Stirling University, who presented an analysis of the current proposals to further devolve taxation. We were also pleased to support the Scottish launch of the Churches Mutual Credit Union in Scotland and provide members with the opportunity to find out more about their plans.

Thanks to all members who attended SFE's AGM on 7 May and in particular to PwC who hosted the event.

SFE Board Changes
At our recent AGM two board members stood down. We said goodbye to Ken Barclay of RBS after 6 years on the SFE Board and to Jim Coyle of Lloyds Banking Group after almost 4 years. Taking their places on the board from Lloyds and RBS respectively, will be Robin Bulloch and Louise Smith.

Roundtable of European Centres
SFE is one of the founding members of the Roundtable of European Financial Centres which aims to strengthen collaboration between centres and between these and the governing EU bodies. The last meeting took place in Rome earlier this month when both the EU Capital Markets Union and the place of savings in European countries were discussed. Details of the group can be found on their website (above) and @EUFinCentres.

SFE Chief Executive
Most of you will be aware that Owen Kelly is leaving  SFE later this year and we are currently seeking a new Chief Executive.  Anyone wishing more details about the post should contact Scott Black at submit@fwbparkbrown.com or Willie Finlayson at applications@fwbparkbrown.com

Congratulations to SFE members Avaloq on their recent announcement of an expansion to their Edinburgh R&D centre.  More details here.

New Apprenticeship in Financial Services
From August 2015, more than 20 pupils will enrol on the Foundation Apprenticeship in Financial Services, developed by a strategic partnership involving City of Glasgow College and Skills Development Scotland.  It is modelled on the existing Modern Apprenticeship in Financial Services and offers pupils in S5 and S6 the opportunity to complete elements of a Modern Apprenticeship, gain industry recognised qualifications and work experience, alongside Highers and Advanced Highers and hopefully kickstart their careers in Financial Services.

Any SFE member companies interested in supporting the programme or looking for more information should contact Maxine McClintock at maxine.mcclintock@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk or call Maxine on 0141 566 1512
