SFE responds to Chancellors COP26 speech on UK's green finance ambitions

In response to Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s speech at COP26 today, Sandy Begbie CBE, Chief Executive of Scottish Financial Enterprise said:

“Leading the journey to net zero and establishing Scotland as a centre of excellence for green finance has been a top priority for the financial and professional services industry in Scotland since the release of SFE’s strategy in May.

“Today’s pledge from the Chancellor for the UK to become the world’s first net zero financial centre is therefore hugely encouraging for financial and professional services organisations in Scotland, who will play a critical part in realising this ambition.

“We have the skills, expertise, technology, infrastructure and ambition to be a leading global hub for green finance and are motivated to make further progress during the unique opportunity of COP26.

“The key to achieving this is greater collaboration with both the UK and Scottish governments and the measures set out today, including the establishment of the Sustainability Standards Board, are a big step forward, allowing us to get to work in mobilising our resources and attracting new green investment.”
