Skills and Talent Group invites industry support for the next phase of the Work Readiness programme
SFE members are being invited to join the innovative ‘Fast Track’ initiative, designed to drive work-readiness within the potential talent pool for financial services in Scotland.
Under the FiSAB Skills and Talent Group, the regional hubs have been progressing well with the Glasgow Hub chaired by Scott Stewart, Barclays and the newly created East Hub co-chaired by Stuart Langan and Heather McLellan of Lloyds. Scott Stewart recently presented an update at FiSAB's main board meeting in September.
The Hubs bring together industry, public sector and the Further Education Sector with a particular innovation focus around work-readiness.
In early Summer, the Glasgow Hub piloted a "Fast Track" 6 week work-readiness course, focused on HNC/D and Degree level graduates seeking careers in financial & professional services who needed more learning support for future employment in F&PS. The course curriculum has been co-designed and delivery with the Hub's industry members (including BNP Paribas, Lloyds, Barclays, HSBC, Morgan Stanley among others).
The pilot was successfully delivered and evaluated, ensuring that future Fast Tracks reflect the needs of both learners and industry. Following the "demonstrator" pilot in Glasgow, the aim is to build a course which is scalable across Scotland and further enhance the Scottish education sector's provision to the financial services sector and preparing future applicants in their work-readiness to meet our industry demands.
Plans are now progressing to deliver further Fast Track* courses in Glasgow and the first cohort in the East. Details of Glasgow's November course can be found at here. Fast Track will follow a common curriculum but there is flexibility to reflect the regional nature of in-demand roles.
The Hubs provide an opportunity for SFE members, financial & professional services firms more generally, to effectively engage together and with public and education sectors. Fast Track provides another talent channel for your organisation so if you have expansion/replacement plans at entry/mid levels please engage. The Hub Chairs would welcome your participation where you can shape, influence and co-deliver future work-readiness courses that can positively impact your own resourcing plans and more widely develop links across your region.
Please contact Marcella.Boyle@sds.co.uk or 07970 903920 in the first instance who is the Programme Lead for the Hubs.
*Fast Track has been announced as a finalist for the Scottish Financial Services Awards 2019: Pioneer Category, at the upcoming SFE Annual Dinner and Scottish Financial Services Awards.
