My Career Ready Internship at SFE - Darcy Hunter McCallum

Like many young people starting their first office job, I didn’t know what to expect in terms of workload, the team or the structure of my days. From day one everyone here made me feel welcome and like I was a genuine part of the team. During my first week they each contributed to giving me tasks and helping me adjust to this radical change from school life.

During my first week I was mainly focusing on settling in and getting to know the team and everyone involved in the workings of SFE. I did a lot of background reading and had my one-to-ones with each member of the team where I learnt what everyone does and how SFE works as an organisation. As the weeks went on, I had the opportunity to join in various meetings with members and other organisations. For example, one week I got to travel to Capco and take part in a meeting about an event they were hosting in London.   

Another week I got to sit in on a CSR meeting discussing financial literacy related to young people and many more meetings. I also made a video for SFE’s getinto.finance page where I answered questions about myself, Career Ready and my time at SFE. 

One key project I worked on during my time with SFE is updating the member brochure, so that it was accurate and correctly portrays what SFE can offer their members. To complete this project, I had to converse with the team on their opinions and thoughts on what the brochure should include. I also found and inputed up to date statistics, worked on the layout and the actual content included within the brochure.  

I found this task particularly enjoyable due to the writing elements and the collaboration aspects; it was interesting to work with so many people and see how all these different elements complement one another.  

I would like to thank everyone at SFE for the amazing opportunity they have given me and all I have learned from them. These 4 weeks have been incredibly beneficial, and I have genuinely enjoyed every minute of it. You are such a lovely group of people and the unequivocable support I’ve been shown these past four weeks has made this process so much easier, so thank you all!
